OUR STORY

Cathedral of Faith began in 1965 when Pastor Kenny and Shirley Foreman left their thriving church in Kansas City, MO to start a new work out west. Since then, the church has grown in every decade, and today we offer over 200 ministries on 11 campuses.
We are proud of our humble beginnings.

1965

Pastor Kenny and Shirley, along with son Ken, 6, and Kurt, 1, leave Calvary Temple in Kansas City, MO to take over what was then called Friendly Bible Church. It was located on Pedro Street in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose, CA.The first weekend, 32 people attended service. The church was re-named Faith Temple.
One week after starting Faith Temple, Pastor Kenny went on the San Jose ABC affiliate, KNTV, and started a groundbreaking television show, Abundant Living. Pastor Foreman and the church broadcast a television program continually for over 45 years ici.

1976

Faith Temple was outgrowing its campus, with thousands of congregation members coming to know the Lord. In 1976, without even owning the property, the church stood in faith and held a groundbreaking service on the land on the corner of Curtner Avenue and Canoas Garden Avenue, believing it would be their new campus.

1982

On January 1, 1982, the switch was pulled and Cathedral of Faith became the home of The Religious Channel; 24 hours of Christian programming on Gill Cable, the largest cable company in the nation at that time. The dream of reaching the lost through such a powerful medium now took on a local dimension. In 1986, Cathedral of Faith started KLXV Channel 65; a full broadcast Christian television station with a potential of reaching over six million people. The church owned this station for over a decade.

1989

In the late 1970’s, Reaching Out food ministry began out of a church closet on campus. By the late 80’s, it had grown exponentially. In 1989, the Cathedral of Faith held their first Celebration of Love, a large event distributing food to our neediest in the community. Professional athletes and government dignitaries joined the thousands who gathered for this historic occasion. To this day, Pastor Foreman holds closest to his heart the Reaching Out Ministry that serves the homeless and needy.

1993

To meet the needs of the economically disadvantaged in our community, Reaching Out built a state-of-the-art, 16,000 square foot warehouse facility in 1993. Today, Reaching Out distributes over $16 million annually in food, provides food for families at 37 local public schools and is Northern California’s largest food outreach. The building is debt-free and operates based on grants and congregation support. It continues to gain acclaim for its pioneering practices to feed the hungry.

1998

On August 23, 1998, ribbon cutting took place for our 30,000 square foot Family Life Center structure. The state of the art building includes a professional fitness center with cardio equipment, universal weight machines, free weight room, and a full gymnasium. It also houses a dance room, locker room, and offices. The Family Life Center helps people focus on improving health and fitness through stretching, dance/aerobic training, nutrition workshops, strength and cardiovascular training, and organized sports and recreational activities.

2002

On May 26, 2002, the Prayer Center was dedicated. The building provides a peaceful environment conducive to prayer and reflection. On the walls of the center, a large mural was painted depicting Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

2003

On October 12, 2003, the Horton Youth Center was dedicated, named after Jack and Nancy Horton, longtime congregation members who gave tremendously of their time, finances and love to see the Church flourish. The Horton Youth Center offers state of the art media walls, classrooms, auditorium, 25-foot rock climbing wall, and more. This center is a meeting place for youth activities at Cathedral of Faith.

The very next day, after the Horton Youth Center was dedicated, the Church held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Noah’s Park, the newly renovated, state of the art 18,240 square foot playground. Features include water activities, sand play, swings, tricycle path, play structures, and a climbing rock.

2007

In 2007, Cathedral of Faith welcomed University Preparatory Academy (UPA) to campus. Founded by Kurt Foreman and a group of former educators, UPA’s mission is to prepare 7-12th grade students in Santa Clara County to enter and excel in the best colleges and universities in the nation, with the training to assume leadership positions in their community. With over 600 students, UPA has been named to U.S. News & World Report’s list of America’s Best High Schools. Graduates attend renowned universities like Princeton, UCLA, New York University and UC Berkeley.

2010

In 2010, the Church dedicated the Walk of Faith in the front of the church. There are 53 different Scriptures contained in the Walk of Faith, all taken from the words of Jesus. It is our prayer that this Walk will be a place that inspires and builds faith for years to come and a symbol on our campus that Jesus will always be front and center of all that we are and all that we do as a Church.

2011

Pastor Ken began steps to build additional campuses, connected via video. Our first campus to open was Morgan Hill Campus. Led by Pastor Gary Palacios, the church is thriving, with an outstanding community outreach program. Next to open was Catedral De Fe Spanish site, Led by Pastor John Mendez, it has been a lighthouse to Spanish speaking members of our community.

Following this campus came new satellite churches in: Milpitas with Pastor Robert Mize, East San Jose with Pastor Gil Gonzalez, Gilroy with Pastor Kent Gardiola, Online Campus with Pastor Daniel Herrera, Two Philippines campuses led by John & Myra Jalique.

Early in 2011, the Church added a state of the art outdoor Amphitheater. The venue is used weekly during spring & summer as a church service site, as well as for special events, BBQs, sports, movies, and concerts. It is an invaluable addition to the campus, building community and encouraging fellowship.

2015

In September of 2015, Cathedral of Faith celebrated 50 years of ministry with an enormous event at the San Jose Giants stadium. Ten thousand people enjoyed music, worship, family fun, ministry and fellowship as we celebrated what God has done through the church for five decades.

TODAY

Cathedral of Faith is a thriving body of believers who believe that all things are possible through Christ. Ours is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational congregation with a heart to serve our community and change our world. We are active ministers, expanding God’s love into every corner of our community.

Celebration of Life Service

Obituary

Pastor Kenny Foreman is now in the presence of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He peacefully passed from this life, surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday, December 16 around 7:20 pm. Please pray for the Foreman family as they grieve their loss and celebrate his homegoing. The words of the song he loved and sang often have now come to pass:

And then one day, I’ll cross the river,

I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;

And then, as death gives way to victory,

I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!
